Sergiu Biris Joins Elrond as Head of Product

The overarching promise of blockchain technology to be a catalyst for transformational change can only be realized through widespread adoption and significant talent infusion. The road toward onboarding the next billion people into the new internet economy will also require unparalleled product expertise and leadership.

Sergiu Biris, a Romanian serial entrepreneur and product lead with over 15 years of experience in product management, joins Elrond as the Head of Product. His initial focus will be Maiar, leading the team in developing and driving the product strategy for Maiar 2.0.

His track record of success in building products that respond to untapped customer needs speaks for itself. In 2007, he founded Trilulilu, a video-hosting platform that reached over 3 million unique monthly visitors, making it the number one most-visited Romanian website. During the same year, Sergiu co-founded LiveRail, a video advertising platform that Facebook acquired for an estimated $500M. By 2012, he launched the first Romanian subscription-based music streaming service, Zonga.

After more than 9 months of deep conversations, productive explorations and work, I believe Sergiu's efforts will help unlock a new chapter for the Elrond products. His addition to the Elrond team signals our strong and reinforced commitment to creating remarkable products that improve people's lives. Excited to welcome him to the Elrond team, and see the new and important steps we can achieve together.

Blockchain technology will disrupt not only a few industries but the very foundations of the Internet. In practice, however, the visions, technologies, motivations, teams, or communities differ from project to project. Nevertheless, despite many challenges and obstacles, it has always amazed me how a tight-knit team could develop such innovative products. This is why I feel Elrond is special. After getting to know Beniamin and the team, I became even more fascinated with their perseverance and long-term vision, so when I was presented with the proposal to join the team, it felt like a perfect fit.” said Sergiu.
We are in a pivotal moment in the history of technology. Several years from now, we will look back on the products we build at Elrond, and the experience will be similar to that of the very early days of the Internet after the browser made those small networks of computers available to everyone. So we have this incredibly unique opportunity to be here in this moment when, as Steve Jobs once said, “we can put a dent in the Universe,” and I couldn’t be more proud and excited to be part of this amazing team.” Sergiu added.

To help elevate user experience and further enhance product functionality, Sergiu will first tackle the roadmap and development of Maiar 2.0. The upgraded version represents one of the most significant milestones for Elrond as we are working on incorporating more functionalities and turning Maiar into the intuitive interface of the new open economy. Moving forward, Sergiu will also spearhead the strategy for our upcoming in-house products.

The next blockchain growth chapter will be marked by the emergence of increasingly abstract forms of technology and intuitive products that can serve a broader range of needs.

Sergiu’s deep expertise in product management and his unwavering commitment to delivering an outstanding user experience will be essential to our mission of giving anyone, anywhere easy access to a new version of money, a digital and easily transferable one.
