New Elrond Wallet Feature: Proof Of Address & Assets Ownership Via Cryptographic Message Signing & Verification

Providing irrefutable proof of ownership with 0 cost and 100% confidence is an exciting development in the collaboration space involving digital signature. Blockchain is an arguably more secure solution than central certification authorities, and it provides a more secure and cost effective alternative that might soon become the norm for digital signatures.

Most Elrond dApps already include this feature, especially when you sign in with the Maiar App, DeFi Wallet, Ledger, etc.

Now individual users can quickly verify ownership directly from the Elrond Web Wallet via the newly launched Message Signing & Verification feature.

Signing Messages

To sign a message, connect into your Elrond Web Wallet and select the “Sign Message” option found in the left menu.

1. Enter the desired message and select “Sign”. You can then copy the resulting output and share it with the entity requesting the proof.

2. You can then copy the resulting output and share it with the entity requesting the proof.

Verifying signatures

Verifying a signed message can be done from the same “Sign Message” section of the Elrond Web Wallet, by entering the output message received into the “Verify” tab.

In the following tab after clicking on Verify, you will be able to see the Signing Address and the Signed Message, that you can check to see if they match, together with the verification result.

Whether you sent funds by mistake to an exchange hot wallet or just need to verify if you have access to an address for receiving rewards or other funds, the Sign Message feature can be used as an extra security check to avoid many errors and reduce the risk of losing funds.

Please go ahead and test this new feature, and let us know what you think!
